    Very good

Visited Alnwick Castle and Gardens which was the purpose of the visit .This was great and a worthwhile experience . A great tourist attraction staffed by friendly people .

    Fabulous

The hotel was clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The staff (apart from the odd exception) were very welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough to help. I would definitely visit again.

Only problem I had was not being able to park in the hotel car park one evening - all other parking around is chargeable from 8 am until 6 pm.

    Very good

The dining room was very attractive with the tables well-speced and elegantly laid out. The hotel is well placed in the town.

The downside is that there is no lift and our room was on the second floor - not good for us oldies - and the bathroom was rather cramped, especially for anyone with restricted movement

    Friendly staff

No bed spread, could see dirty old bed underneath. Breakfast was cold and needed to ask many times to be served.

    Exceptional

The decor of the banqueting room was best. The banqueting room's decor is magnificent. We were in the annex and thought the room size might have been larger. excellent breakfast, dinner choices might have been better.

The cosy atmosphere at reception created by the fire and the Christmas tree

    Superb

All the staff were excellent, including helping to puch our car out of the snow. All were very friendly, informative & helpful.

Whilst I fully accept it was very cold outside, we'd have liked the publib rooms in particular the bar to be warmer. If it had of been we'd have been happier to spend more in the bar instead of moving to a pub.

The second time I have stayed here and this time it was tryng to be something it is not, and in the process fails to project what a unique, fabulous and unique place this is - ancient coaching inn + part of the interior of an opulent Edwardian ocean liner! The 'anywhere' boutique hotel interior & litter of sweeties, mags, cushions, throws etc. cluttered our relatively small room did not equal luxury. Worse, the restaurant food was mediocre, very limited in choice and not cheap - imagine our surprise that the chef was featured in the regional gourmet mag in our bedroom stating his reverance for local food. Why did he not use the excellent family butchers across the street??

Apart from some senior waiting staff who were trying hard, the younger members of staff appeared under trained and unaware that their prime focus should be the guests, not chattering to each other.
